Save the children from the rain!
Project Launch:
Ruaca is a remote community with no electricity and limited potable water. The community’s elementary school does not have a roof, floor, windows or doors, so students must sit on the dirt. When it rains, students cannot attend school, which has negatively impacted literacy rates within the community. This project will renovate the school, transforming it into a proper learning environment.
Project Update
In collaboration with the school dean, community members have started clearing out the classroom in preparation for construction. There is a ton of enthusiasm surrounding this project and the students are anxious to learn in their renovated classroom.
Final Report: 11/28/2016
The elementary school now is housed within a building, allowing students and faculty to hold classes indoors, preventing distractions and even dangers (such as venomous snakes) that threatened safety and educational quality. Three new classrooms and an administrative office have been built within the new structure, allowing for efficient and effective academic operation.
