Ngwenya Literacy Hub
Project Launch: 9-9-21
With a $9,813.38 World Connect investment, Ladder to Learning (L2L) is geared to change the reading status of Ngwenya L.E.A School learners through a Literacy Hub. Upon completion of the project, the literacy hub, which will be stocked with study text books, general reading materials and education programmed computer gadgets, all aimed at offering unique study and reading opportunities to 6,924 learners ( 3,486 girls and 3,438 boys). Additionally, the hub will provide remedial reading lessons to learners that are lagging with their reading skills. In the long run, the project will contribute to improvements in reading skills largely impacting performance of learners in school, zonal and national examinations.
Project Update: 1-6-22
The construction of the Ngwenya Literacy Hub is progressing well with the foundation, window level and ring beam phases completed successfully. The structure, which will now progress into the roofing phase, is scheduled to be completed in February 2022 and later stocked up with shelves and technological gadgets such as tablets that will enhance reading among 6,924 students at Ngwenya 1 & 2 Primary Schools. The project has received enormous support from the community which has contributed bricks, sand and storage space for construction materials. Flemmings Kamanga is the chairperson of the Ngwenya 1 school committee and says, “I am more excited to learn that once the project is complete, students will have access to tech gadgets such as computers which will open up great exposure to technology".
