Celebrando El Mundo (Celebrating the World)
Year: 2011
Country: Dominican Republic
Project Status: Funded
Impact Sector: Education
Project Investment: $495.00
Project Launch:
A grant from World Connect’s Kids to Kids Program in 2011 helped support an interactive youth group focusing on themes of world culture, diversity, and equality. The idea for the youth group, called “Celebrando El Mundo (Celebrating the World)” came from a youth camp that the Peace Corps runs annually. The youth group is based around a manual that was developed by the Peace Corps Volunteer and that teaches themes of diversity, gender rights, and general human equality. Presentations focused on a particular country, allowing the youth group members to learn about the culture, history, and geographical location of that particular country, while discovering how it relates to global diversity and human equality. Presentations included activities ranging from art project to cooking and music classes, all relating to the culture of the country discussed. This youth group will help the youngest members by providing them with knowledge about the world around them and allowing them to confront discrimination and develop an open mind and a sense of unity with people of all types. The kids who completed the course of the youth group left with a new love and understanding of the world and the creative mind.Explore other Projects
